The heat index values aren’t just wearing down southeast Iowa residents, but the roads as well.

Louisa County crews are currently repairing H16/40th Street, east of the Heritage Oaks Golf and Country Club in Wapello.

Louisa County Engineer Larry Roehle mentions how the heat has affected the road, “Right now it looks like two of the panels have been compressed so that they basically kind of look like a ski jump, it’s pushed up about eight inches into the air.”

Roehle says he was notified of the problem fairly early and that they have the portion of the road closed to remove the concrete and install a gravel patch. When temperatures are cooler Roehle plans to do permanent repairs on the road. Roehle warns motorists to be aware of road signs as they are finishing up repairs this week.
