The Highland school board looked to the district’s future at their annual retreat June 27.

This was the first meeting with Dr. Mike Jorgensen as interim superintendent. Jorgensen asked each of the board members to bring five goals for the next three to five years. A total of 20 ideas were conceived and then narrowed down to five, of which three are specific to the board, one a learning goal specific to administration, and one as an overall goal for the district.

Jorgensen describes how he felt about the meeting, “I thought it was a good process, it was a great discussion. It was definitely a lot of teaming and cooperation, and I felt really good about the process as kind of my initial foray in working with the board.”

Jorgensen is the interim superintendent for the 2017-2018 school year. He was previously superintendent for the Washington School District, retiring in 2015. The decided goals from the retreat will be presented at the next regular board meeting on July 10.
