The Kalona City Council is expected to award a bid package for the community center project this Thursday.

Mayor Ken Herington talks about the project, “The plans and bid packages went out for our community center. July 13 we’ll have all the bids in and we’re hoping to be able to award the contract so we can finally get started on our community center project.” With the 4th of July last week and the bid letting timeline, the council rescheduled its first meeting of July from July 3 to July 13 at 6 p.m.

Herington says he hopes to get as many local subcontractors as possible involved in the construction. Carl A. Nelson and Martin Gardner and Associates Architecture are serving as project managers. The renovated $5.36 million community center will include a new gym, walking tracks, exercise rooms, and other new facilities.
