A Kalona lawyer won a $285,000 settlement in a lawsuit against Johnson County Attorney Janet Lyness, another attorney in her office and two Coralville police officers.

Lawyer Raymond Tinnian filed a suit in August 2016 asserting that he was wrongfully arrested and prosecuted nearly three years ago. Tinnian comments on his lawsuit, “I’ve had two stalkers for the last 15 years, and they’ve been trying at various things to destroy my life. This time they framed me and the police got conned, and so did the prosecutors.”

Tinnian was arrested in August 2014 for tampering with a witness or juror, first degree harassment, and criminal mischief. The charges stemmed from Tinnian being accused of threatening a member of the jury who found him guilty of disorderly conduct in March 2014. Tinnian was accused of sending a threatening letter to one of the jurors and spray painting the words “Guilty” and “Justice” on the juror’s home in Coralville. Tinnian’s tampering charge was acquitted in April 2015 and he was found not guilty of criminal mischief.
