The Lone Tree (15-10) baseball team will kick off their postseason tonight when they face off with Midland (19-11) at Lisbon in the first round of the class 1A district playoffs.

The Lions seem to be playing their best ball at the right time as they ended the regular season winning their final three contests. A huge part of the Lions’ offensive success this season has come from one of the best sophomore in the state, Avery Knock. His impressive .519 batting average led the Southeast Iowa Super Conference and leads the team in RBI with 24. Seniors Sam Fuhrmeister and Ross Swinton have been a tough one-two punch on the bump as they both have a sub 2.3 ERA on the year in a combined 78 innings pitched.

Midland concluded their regular season falling to Durant 16-3 last week. Austin Smith is a player to watch with a .438 batting average and 22 RBI on the year. Midland has shown promise on the mound as well with their top two pitchers in Fisher Bisinger and Connor Harms having a combined ERA of 2.12 in 85 innings.

All the action gets started at 5 p.m. tonight at Lisbon High School.
