An officer-involved shooting in North English has been declared a justified homicide this week.

The Iowa County Attorney’s Office stated they reviewed witness statements, reports, and recordings regarding the shooting death of Robin Blaylock on June 10. Iowa County Attorney Tim McMeen stated Williamsburg Police Officer Blake Heller used reasonable force against Blaylock when Blaylock pointed his firearm twice at officers while refusing to obey officer commands. Iowa Code defines reasonable force as that force and no more which a reasonable person, in similar circumstances, would judge to be necessary to prevent an injury or loss and can include deadly force if it is reasonable to believe that such force is necessary to avoid injury or risk to one’s life or safety or the life or safety of another, or it is reasonable to believe that such force is necessary to resist a like force or threat. McMeen stated the Williamsburg Police officers could have, on more than one occasion, feared for their own safety during the incident. The shooting of Blaylock has been determined a justified homicide and the officer will face no charges.
