After jumping on the Huskies early, Pekin put an end to the Highland baseball team’s season by winning 7-2 in the class 1A district semifinal game on Thursday.

The Panthers took advantage of some early runs to put the pressure on the Huskies breaking out for three tallies in the first inning. Highland got one of those back in the bottom half of the inning but the Huskie offense went cold after that. Garrett Greiner had a lot to do with that as he was spectacular on the bump going all seven innings giving up just three hits on two runs. Pekin racked up 13 hits on the Huskies led by Torell Washington and Ryan Stansberry having three hits with a pair of RBI.

Pekin moves to 16-10 on the year and clinch a spot in the district final game today. Highland ended their impressive season at 21-5 and a Southeast Iowa Super Conference championship. The Huskies will say goodbye to a lot of veterans, as they lose eight seniors to graduation.
