The Riverside City Council discussed maintenance of right-of-way ditches at their meeting July 17.

Mayor Allen Schneider says the council has had discussions in the past about water flow in city ditches, and he says the city plans to have staff inspect ditches around town to decide what areas need to be cleaned out. Schneider talks about the issue, “Well, when we’ve got tubing underneath sidewalks and things like that and they start to fill up, the water will backlog behind it and get drainage out on the streets and then residents’ properties. So we just want to make sure that any drainage areas are operating the way that they should be and there’s some periodic maintenance that needs to take place.”

Schneider expects the council to have more information on the ditches at their meeting August 7.
