The Sigourney baseball team built a big lead Thursday night in their class 1A district semifinal against the HLV Warriors and then hung on late for a 9-7 win.

Sigourney jumped out to a 9-0 advantage scoring once in the first, twice each in the second and third innings and four times in the fourth. HLV began to chip away, responding with three runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and one more in the sixth to get within 9-7, before Mac Conrad was able to slam the door on the Warriors. Dustin Haines recorded the win for the Savages, going five innings, giving up eight hits, six runs, walking three and striking out three. The Savages were led at the plate by Avery Moore, Josh Mohr and Conrad each with two hits and an RBI. Nick Goad drove in a pair.

With the win Sigourney is now 15-7 and will be back in action Saturday in the district championship game when they take on Iowa Mennonite School for the class 1A district eight championship.
