The Sigourney baseball team scored twice in their final at bat to keep the 2017 season alive with a 7-6 first round district win over Iowa Valley Tuesday.

The Tigers had control of the game early, holding a 3-0 lead after the top of the third with single tallies in each of their first three at bats. Sigourney answered that with a three run bottom of the third to tie the game. Iowa Valley kept scoring, posting another run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to go up 6-3. With the game getting late, the Savages turned it on. Sigourney scored twice in the fifth to get within 6-5 and then finished the comeback with two more runs in the seventh to walk off with the win. The late inning magic came with no one out as Avery Moore walked to lead off the frame and stole second. Josh Moore then singled to and both Moores moved into scoring position on a double steal. After Mac Conrad was intentionally walked, Payton Schauf drove a 1-2 pitch to centerfield where it was bobbled and bounced away from the defender to allow Avery and Josh Moore to race home for the tying and winning runs.

Schauf had a big night going three for four with a homer, and six RBI including the game winning hit. On the hill Schauf also pitched four and two thirds innings with eighth grader Josh Moore collecting the win in relief after he worked a clean inning. With the win, Sigourney is now 14-7 on the year and will next be in action Thursday at Keota against HLV in the district semifinals.
