Area schools of Sigourney and Winfield-Mt. Union collide tonight for a chance to move on to the class 1A softball semifinal regional game.

Both teams are riding high after big offensive performances. WMU (8-15) advanced to the quarterfinal matchup after ending Keota’s season on Monday 12-1. The Wolves showed their offensive potential, breaking out for nine runs in the fourth inning. Hannah Mathews has been an important piece to the Wolves puzzle this season as she leads the team with a .319 BA and 17 RBI. Madie Anderson has put together an impressive 8th grade campaign with a 2.60 ERA in 110 innings of work.

Sigourney (19-11) has experienced plenty of success of their own as they are currently riding a six game win streak to end the regular season. Summer Barthelman leads the second highest scoring team in the South Iowa Cedar League with a .479 BA and 29 RBI. Kendall Streigle has been huge in the circle with a 2.89 ERA in 130 innings pitched.
