With a trip to the class 1A regional final on the line, the Sigourney (20-11) softball team clashes with New London (15-13) tonight.

Sigourney comes into the contest as one of the hottest teams in the state winners of their last seven contests. The Savages reached the semifinal round after defeating Winfield-Mt. Union in an area showdown on Wednesday 7-1. Kendall Streigle has been a big reason for the Savages’ recent success as she has posted a stifling 1.0 ERA in the seven game win streak. Summer Barthelman has been a steady force offensively with a .479 BA, second highest average in the South Iowa Cedar League.

New London advanced to today’s contest after defeating Moravia 8-7 on Wednesday. Layney Loyd leads the Bulldogs with a .389 BA and 19 runs batted in. The Savage offense will have to work through Camryn Blint who has a 3.21 ERA in 65 innings pitched for the Bulldogs.

The chance to move on gets started at 7 p.m. tonight at Sigourney High School.
