After seeing their season end to the hands of New London a year ago, the Sigourney softball team got their sweet revenge against the Bulldogs by claiming a 6-5 victory to punch their ticket to a third straight regional final.

The game played out to be exactly what you expect from two quality opponents with both teams trading blows to one another. The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead by plating two runs in the second inning. The Savage offense went to work by tallying a run in each of the next three innings. Taking a 3-2 lead into the sixth inning it looked like Sigourney was going to shut the door on the Bulldog season when they cashed in on three insurance runs. New London would not go away however, as they managed three runs in the final inning but it was not enough as the Savages were able to hang on by the slimmest of margins. Kendall Streigle did all she could in the circle going all seven innings giving up three earned runs on nine hits and four strikeouts. Autum Barthelman continues to provide a spark for the Sigourney offense as she went 2-for-4 with a RBI and run scored. Leah Carter added a pair of hits and two runs scored.

With the loss New London finishes their season at 15-14 as Sigourney moves their record to 21-11 and lives to see another game. They will look for the third time to be a charm as they have fell in the regional final each of the last two seasons. Martensdale-St. Marys (32-3) is all that separates Sigourney from the state tournament and the two teams will duke it out on Monday for the class 1A region 7 crown.
