One game. That is all that separates Sigourney (21-11) from the state softball tournament as they face off with No. 3 Martensdale-St. Mary’s (32-3) in the class 1A regional finals today.

The Savages have made it an annually appearance in the regional final, making for a third straight appearance. Having fallen in each of the last two years, Sigourney will look for third time to be a charm to reach the coveted state tournament. The Savages will have to be at their best as the Blue Devils are in the top five in the state for ERA and team batting average. Kaci Sherwood has the second highest batting average in the state with .575 and she has batted in a remarkable 54 runs on the year. Kylie Sherwood has been stellar in the circle with a 1.32 ERA in 132 innings of work. Sigourney will keep leaning on their ace Kendall Streigle in the circle as she holds a 2.76 ERA in 144 innings. The Savages have some offensive firepower to counter Sherwood in the circle, including Autum Barthelman with a .465 BA

The chance to punch their ticket to the big dance gets started at 7 p.m. tonight in Martensdale.
