Iowa’s soybean crop dropped slightly in condition quality from last week to this week according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey said, “The hot and humid weather created stress for both crops and livestock last week, particularly in areas that have missed the recent rains.” Overall soybeans are rated at 10% very poor to poor, 28% fair, 53% good and nine percent excellent. In southeast Iowa 56% of soybeans are blooming, behind the current state rate of 73% and the five-year average of 71%. Locally 18% of soybeans are setting pods, behind the five-year average of 28%.
