For $50,000 the Washington County Board of Supervisors is pursuing a purchase agreement for a piece of property across the street from the courthouse’s front door.

The two-story white house is the former Goff property located at 302 West Main Street. The owners are asking that they keep the furnace, since the supervisors previously discussed demolishing the house for parking. At their meeting Tuesday the board approved moving forward with the purchase agreement which allows the owners to take the furnace within 90 days of closing. The closing is scheduled for August 1st.

Chairman Richard Young said at a later time the board will have to decide how to demolish the building, whether that means a backhoe is brought in to tear it down or a group salvages the lumber.
