Washington County is one of five counties in the state to have no change or an increase in unemployment when comparing June 2016 to this June.

The unemployment rate in Washington County last June and this June are the same at 2.9%. This year Washington County’s unemployment rate went from 2.7% in May to 2.9% in June. Other area counties that saw slight increases in unemployment figures from May to June include Henry, Iowa, Jefferson, Johnson, Keokuk and Louisa. The three counties in the state with the highest rates of unemployment are all in southeast Iowa with Lee County at 5.9%, followed by Wapello County at 4.6% and Des Moines County at 4.5%.
