Three Washington soccer teams battled on the pitch during the Iowa Games July 14th-16th in Ames.
The Washington U19 6v6 male team won silver at the event. Their team named FC Thunder coached by Kevin Rohr and Phil Zimmer was made up of many varsity Demon players from this past season. The U14 6v6 male team named Washington United coached by Protacio Marcelino also took second place by going 2-1-1. The U12 9v9 co-ed team participated in the competitive division coached by Heather Perez Gibbs and Sally Hart and went 0-2-1 playing against Ottumwa and Des Moines.
Most notably the FC Thunder and Washington United received sportsmanship awards for their division where each participant received medals for their upstanding class. As varsity head coach of Washington High School Hart noted, “This makes me proud of the young men in our soccer program.”
