The Winfield-Mt. Union baseball team’s postseason play came to a close on Tuesday when they fell to Burlington Notre Dame 10-3 in the first round of the class 1A districts.

The Wolves hung tough for a while with the Nikes and took an early 3-2 lead into the third inning. The Nikes offense went to work however, as they scored in each of the next four innings to cruise to the 10-3 win. Patience at the plate was the name of the game for the Nikes as they racked up eight walks on the day. Leading the way for Burlington Notre Dame was Nicholas Skerik going 2-for-2 with three RBI.

With the win Burlington Notre Dame improves to 14-7 on the year and advance to the district semifinals against New London today. The Wolves cap off their season with a record of 3-20 and lose Kleyton Benedict, Cary Stalder, Austin Lee, and Brayden Bradley to graduation.
