Forty-nine non-livestock projects created by Washington County 4-H members were on display at the Iowa State Fair.
A few of the projects received special recognition, including Most Outstanding Visual Arts Project going to Emily Hora for her wall tapestry. Kristen Twinam and Makenna Burdock received recognition from the State Historical Society for commendable achievement in the research and promotion of Iowa history, which showed history through photography. An Iowa Department of Ag and Land Stewardship Award was presented to David Hora for a project about soil biology; the same project was also recognized by Iowa State University College of Ag and will receive a scholarship. A cover crops project created by Greta Sieren received an Iowa Department of Ag and Land Stewardship Award. Outstanding Sewn Item by Taunton Press went to Amanda Pfeifer. A photography series of blue birds by Spencer Ross was considered to be in the Top 20 Photos of 4-H by the Professional Photographers of Iowa. Also, Caedon Harbison received $400 and an International Harvester Collector’s Club Award for his tractor restoration project.
