The WACO Warriors football team will start their season tonight when they host the HLV Warriors for a week zero game in Wayland.

This marks the second straight year these two teams match up in week zero with HLV edging WACO last season 28-13. WACO is coming off of a year where they went 3-6 but bring back a lot of experience for this fall. Wyatt Harbison returns for his second year under center for the Warriors, looking to build off of 10 touchdowns and 553 yards passing last year. Colton Horak could provide a big rushing attack, coming off a season where he rushed for a team-best 1,131 yards and 13 touchdowns.

HLV saw plenty of success last fall with a 7-4 record and an 8-man playoff berth. Brandon Schafbuch is a player to watch, racking up 862 yards on the ground and 175 yards receiving in 2016. WACO will have to find a way to break through a stout HLV defense that recorded the fourth-most tackles in 8-man last year with 612.

The season opener gets started at 7 p.m. tonight at WACO High School.
