The Mid-Prairie Council of Churches approached the school board about not allowing community-sanctioned events in the school buildings on Wednesday nights.

The board’s policy dictates that school-sanctioned activities not occur past 6 p.m. on Wednesday nights to accommodate different church groups and events. Superintendent Mark Schneider says, “One of the other things that the school district believes strongly is letting the community use our facilities, and so different groups can come in and use our facilities. So even though on Wednesday nights we don’t have any school-sponsored activities there may be other groups that want to use our facilities on Wednesdays.”

A representative from the Mid-Prairie Council of Churches Deacon Derick Cranston presented his concern to the board August 14. The board said they will take the concern under advisement and will collect input from other organizations on the issue. Schneider says he looks forward to this being an open topic of discussion for several sides involved.
