Cyclists in Washington, Keokuk, Johnson, and Iowa Counties will be raising awareness and funds for sarcoma this Saturday as part of the Courage Ride.

The Courage Ride’s goal is to fight sarcoma, cancer found in bones and connective tissues. The secondary road use request was approved by the Washington County Board of Supervisors Tuesday. Cyclists have different route options that include paved and/or gravel roads from a 16-mile loop to a 102-mile trek. All of the routes start and end at the Iowa Mennonite School and the suggested departure time is for long routes is 6:30-7:30 a.m. and all cyclists should be pedaling by 10:30 or 11 a.m.

There are a variety of activities other than bicycling, including meals, live entertainment, and a silent auction. Participants and community members can take part in a free skin cancer screening by University of Iowa dermatologists. For registration information click here.
