It’s the first week of the volleyball season and we already have an anticipated matchup when Washington and Mid-Prairie clash tonight in Wellman for an area showdown.
Mid-Prairie (2-1) kicked off their season on Monday in Keota with a tournament. The Golden Hawks found some success beating Keota and Lone Tree in straight sets before falling to tournament champion Highland. Maya Hall led the way for the Golden Hawks with eight kills, Caitlyn Riggan had 30 assists, and Alison Yoder managed 25 digs. The team is coming off of a year where they went 12-20 and lost four players to graduation.
This marks the opening game of the season for Washington. The Demons are coming off of a season where they went 3-23 and have to replace three positions that were lost to graduation. Senior Megan Mitchell will lead the charge as the setter, managing 243 assists last year that was the fourth most in the Southeast Conference. Morgan Brinning will lead the defense after 110 digs last year and Isabel Bailey returns with 17 blocks.
The area matchup gets started at 7:20 p.m. tonight at Mid-Prairie High School.
