On a night where they honored all service members of the community the Washington football team made a huge statement to open up the season by defeating Albia 64-7.

Excellent field position was the name of the game for the Demon offense, as they pounded out seven first half touchdowns starting each drive inside Blue Demon territory. After Washington took back the opening kickoff to Albia’s 30-yard line it took five plays to find the endzone, capped off by an 11-yard touchdown run by Jaivonn Willis. The athletic senior put on a show as he racked up two more touchdowns including a 75 yard punt return where he made a few Blue Demons miss and then later connected on a perfectly thrown ball by Ryan Reighard for a 25 yard touchdown pass. There was plenty of success to go around for the Demons as Reighard, Tristin Westphal-Edwards, and Jack Redlinger all added rushing scores in the first half to take a 50-0 lead into the break.

Out of the half, a lot of Demon reserves got in on the action including Luke Turner who took a zone read play 45 yards for a touchdown and junior Garrett Ikherd scored from four yards out. As  dominant as the Washington offense was, the defense was just as good not allowing the Blue Demons to cross midfield until the fourth quarter.  Albia only managed 19 yards on the ground on 28 carries. Reighard completed both of his passes for 29 yards and a touchdown. Turner paced the Demons on the ground with seven carries and 116 yards for the one score.

With the win the Demons open up the season 1-0 as the Blue Demons drop to 0-2. Washington gets back on the field Friday night when they travel to Wellman to face the Golden Hawks.
