With the official kick off to the football season just a week away let’s look ahead at the upcoming year for the Wolves of Winfield-Mt. Union.

Last year, the Wolves went 1-8 on the year and saw five players graduate. On both sides of the ball expect up front to be the strength of the Wolves, as the battle-tested bunch brings back all five offensive linemen and four on the defensive side. Senior Jayce Malone will lead the experienced group as the leading returning tackler from 2016 with 39.

At the skills position the Wolves will have to reload as they lost their quarterback, leading rusher, and leading receiver to graduation. Graham Hagge will look to fill the void as the leading returning rusher from a year ago with 149 yards. Christian Gerot will take over the reigns under center. The sophomore saw limited action last year completing three passes for 22 yards.

The Wolves will travel to Columbus Community to duke it out in the season opener next Friday in an area showdown.
