Having your blood pressure checked, or getting a sports physical can be difficult for those lacking health insurance.

The University of Iowa Mobile Clinic in Columbus Junction provides free healthcare services for anyone in the area. Columbus Junction Mobile Clinic Coordinator Jim Kacer explains, “The clinic serves medically underserved areas, underserved populations, and that is an underserved area down there. There are people with no insurance or inadequate insurance and that is the purpose of the clinic is to serve those people.”

This summer the mobile clinic moved locations from Roundy Elementary to the Columbus Community Senior Center in order to gain visibility for the service. Kacer comments on this year’s attendance, “It’s been improving. The first few clinics we had this year we didn’t get very good turnout but the last few we’ve had at the senior center we’ve had better attendance.”

Kacer compliments the staff at the Columbus Community Senior Center for promoting the clinic to the public. Kacer says there is no need to bring medical records or proof of insurance to the clinic. A spanish interpreter is on staff. The mobile clinic will be from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.
