The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team took control early Friday night, rolling to a 42-12 season opening win over Louisa-Muscatine on the road.

In a game heard on KCII, Mid-Prairie went deep into the playbook on the first play from scrimmage, pulling out a wide receiver reverse pass that saw Justin Schwartz hook up with Terryhn Jacoby for a 63 yard touchdown to put Mid-Prairie up 7-0. After turning away the Falcons Mid-Prairie marched the ball 69 yards in 10 plays with Keaton Duwa crashing into the end zone from one yard out on fourth down to double the Golden Hawk lead to 14-0. Duwa would get his second rushing touchdown in the final moments of the first quarter to put Mid-Prairie up 21-0. Louisa-Muscatine showed signs of life on the ensuing kickoff when Brock Jeambey raced 98 yards for a touchdown to get L-M within 21-6 after one.

In the second quarter the fireworks continued for Mid-Prairie, this time through the air with Karson Gingierch finding Tom Butters for a 12 yard touchdown on a fade pattern to go up 28-6. The lead ballooned to 35-6 when Gingerich went up top to Justin Schwartz for a 33 yard scoring connection. That’s where the score stood at the half.

The Golden Hawks enacted the continuous clock rule 90 seconds into the third quarter when Duwa collected his third scoring run of the night, this one from 20 yards out to put Mid-Prairie up 42-6. The Falcons added a late Chase Kruse four yard touchdown run in the fourth with the game already decided. On the night Mid-Prairie was led by Gingerich through the air, he was nine of 12 for 140 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. His favorite target was Schwartz with six catches for 109 yards and a score. Keaton Duwa had 13 carries for 63 yards and three touchdowns.

The Mid-Prairie defense held L-M to just 97 total yards and forced a pair of turnovers on interceptions from Gingerich and Butters.

With the win, Mid-Prairie is now 1-0 on the season and will next be in action Friday when they host Washington.
