Southeast Iowa’s corn crop is 87% silking, ahead of the five-year average of 85%.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, across the state 91% of corn is silking and 19% is in the dough stage. Soybeans in southeast Iowa are behind the five-year average with 73% blooming and 40% setting pods. Corn is rated at 10% very poor to poor, 25% fair, 52% good and 13% excellent condition. Soybeans statewide are rated at 12% very poor to poor, 28% fair, 51% good and nine percent excellent. Also, 73% of the oat crop for grain or seed was harvested, one day ahead of average.
