Discussion and action was taken on giving funds to the Fountain Charitable Foundation by the Kalona City Council this week.

The Foundation provides rehabilitation to people with chemical dependency issues. At their meeting Monday councilperson Greg Schmidt moved to create an agreement on perimeters of meeting goals of the Foundation with the council approving tax increment finance low to moderate income funds, in the total amount of $120,000. There will be a four-year payback period, $30,000 each year. The council voted 4-1 on the agreement. Bill and Michael Evans of the Fountain Charitable Foundation approached the council on July 24 requesting $120,000 to purchase the property at 510 5th Street to use as low-income housing for at-risk individuals in their program.
