The City of Kalona promotes those making an impact in their community with their annual Kalona City Celebration happening this Saturday.

City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh comments on the seventh year of this event, “We recognize community members that do good for our community. This year we’re going to recognize our volunteer fire department for their hundred-year service to the community and the area.”

The Kalona Fire Department will host an open house from 1-4 p.m. A ribbon cutting and flag presentation for the Kalona Memorial to honor area veterans, volunteer EMS, and volunteer firefighters, is at 2 p.m. on the corner of 6th and C Avenue. The city celebration will last until 10 p.m. at the KCTC lot in downtown Kalona with live music, a kids zone, community awards, an outdoor movie, and a beer garden. Schlabaugh says this annual celebration has been well received by the community as an event for young and old to finish off the summer together.
