The City of Keota is back to the drawing board for the daycare facility project.

The council rejected the contract with Curtis Architecture & Design P.C. at Monday’s meeting. The firm had received a perfect 100 score from the RFQ committee on their meeting July 6. The council deemed the firm’s cost estimate as too high to go any further. The initial projected cost of the facility was $600,000. The city had originally set a resolution to discuss a debt service levy for the facility at a public hearing August 28, but City Clerk Tomisha Hammes says the council has changed their minds, “They didn’t feel like they were well enough informed to move forward with it, with a pricetag that could be possibly be given to us on a daycare facility. And so they wanted to research it more and they’ll take their time with it, they don’t want to rush it. They want to make sure that they have all the information, they want to go around and look at different daycares. They want to make sure they know everything they need to before proceeding forward with it.”

A new request-for-quotation for architects will be sent out.
