Four area youth had livestock in the Iowa State Fair’s 2017 sale of champions.
From Washington County, Sage Becker with Mid-Prairie FFA sold the reserve grand champion FFA market hog for $38,000. The grand champion FFA market hog went for $54,000 and was shown by Kale Boysen with Wapello FFA. Boysen’s hog was the record price for all species. The reserve grand champion FFA market lamb was shown by Zac Howell of Columbus FFA and went for $9,000. And the grand champion 4-H market heifer was shown by Hunter Lock from Jefferson County and was sold for $24,000. The sale of champions grand total with sale, scholarship, and awards this year is $574,600.
