A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Washington County at 3:30 p.m. Thursday

The warning was issued by the National Weather Service until 4:20 p.m. The storm swept across the northern portion of Washington County from Wellman to Riverside, and into Louisa County. A trained weather spotter in Wellman reported pea-size hail, wind gusts estimated at 30-40 miles per hour, and several small tree branches were down. Also, golf ball-size hail was reported near Highland High School. Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Marissa Reisen reminded listeners to use caution if driving, and if encountering a flooded road turn around, don’t drown. Six members of the KCII Severe Weather Action Team worked to bring live coverage of the storm, and had the power gone off KCII would remain on air with our emergency back up generators.
