With a historic postseason run by the Sigourney softball team in the rearview mirror it is time to look back at how they found so much success in the 2017 campaign.

The Savages finished the year 23-13 and fourth in the class 1A state tournament. A .500 team much of the year, the Savages got hot at the right time as they rode a 10-game win streak to end the regular season and into the semifinal game. Sigourney put together a solid season at the plate with a team batting average of .364 with 220 runs batted in, second in the South Iowa Cedar League in both categories. They were also in the top two in the league for stolen bases with 118. In the circle they had the ninth-best ERA in the league with a 4.52.

Individually, Autum Barthelman led Sigourney at the plate with the second-best batting average in the league with .480. Brooke Waechter was in the top three in the conference for RBI with 42. Kendall Streigle carried the load in the circle with 160 innings and a 3.18 ERA, eighth in the league.

Seven Savages were named to the SICL All Conference teams and they only lose Streigle to graduation.
