Demon football is officially upon us as Washington hosts Albia tonight for the season opener in the annual Heroes game.

Coming off of a 6-3 season the Demons are eager to get back to the postseason and they have a lot of weapons where it could be a reality. Dual-threat quarterback Ryan Reighard will take to the field for his third year as the Demon play caller coming off of a season where he threw for 906 yards and ran for 1,025 with a combined 21 touchdowns. Jack Redlinger will be a primary back for the Demons rushing for 592 yards last season and the shifty senior made the most of his carries last week in the scrimmage including a 53-yard touchdown run. Tanner Murphy will lead the defense against a team in Albia that had negative yards rushing last week in their opener.

Last week the Blue Demons fell to Pekin in a week zero game 42-7.  Albia struggled on the ground but their passing attack could present a challenge to an inexperienced Demon defense. Cade Crall completed 10 of his 15 passes for 172 yards and a 59-yard touchdown. Last year when these teams met the Demons captured a 42-0 win.

The season gets started at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Case Field. For the Heroes game all veterans, current members of the military, reserves, medical and rescue, fire department, and law enforcement personnel are invited to take part in the pregame festivities that include being recognized at 7:15 p.m. on the field.
