The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team hosted No. 4 Mount Vernon Friday night at Dwight G. Sattler Field for their 2017 Homecoming game.

As heard on KCII, the Mustangs pulled away for the 49-0 win. Mount Vernon took the game’s opening kick, and behind a balanced offensive attack marched 79 yards before the Golden Hawks stopped them on fourth and goal at the one. After the turnover on downs, the Golden Hawks grabbed a couple of first downs before a punt back to the Mustangs. Starting with that possession, Mount Vernon would score touchdowns seven straight times with the ball. Paul Ryan made it 7-0 with five minutes to play in the first quarter on a two yard touchdown plunge. In the first quarter’s final minute Mustang quarterback Drew Adams hooked up with Cale Snedden for a 30 yard scoring strike to double the lead.

Under a minute into the second quarter, following a Mid-Prairie turnover, the Mustangs called on Ryan again, this time galloping in for a 10 yard scoring run to make it 21-0. Following another Hawk giveaway Ryan would find pay dirt a third time, this on a 16 yard screen pass to make it 28-0. The Mustangs would score 35 total points in the second with Adams throwing a touchdown each to Colden Clark, Snedden and Zach Baker before the break to leave the score at 49-0 going to the half. With the continuous clock enacted in the second half and both teams rotating in reserves, no one was able to find the scoreboard.

On the night the Mustangs outgained the Golden Hawks 429-15 including 206 to -18 on the ground and 223 to 33 through the air. Mount Vernon was led by Adams who finished 12 of 19 for 215 yards and five touchdowns. Snedden hauled in five passes for 111 yards and two scores. Keaton Duwa led the Mid-Prairie offense with 30 yards on 10 carries before suffering an injury that held him out of the second half. With the win, Mount Vernon is now 3-1 on the year, Mid-Prairie falls to 1-3 and will next be in action Friday when they travel to Camanche.
