Drought conditions in Iowa increased in severity from last week to this week with now over 70% of the state abnormally dry.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, 3.3% of Iowa is in extreme drought, 10.6% is in severe drought, 33.2% is in moderate drought, and nearly 71% is abnormally dry. All of the KCII-listening area is impacted by drought conditions, with the worst found in Henry, Jefferson, and the southwest corner of Keokuk County in severe drought. Most of Washington County is abnormally dry with the southwest corner in moderate drought. Extreme drought is in south central Iowa, with the nearest point in Wapello County. Nearly 1.2 million Iowans are in drought areas.
