Southeast and south central Iowa continue to be the driest parts of the state according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Southeast Iowa’s topsoil moisture this week is rated at 49% very short, 34% short, and 17% adequate. Locally, subsoil moisture is rated at 50% very short, 36% short, and 14% adequate. Southeast Iowa doesn’t have any surplus in moisture for topsoil or subsoil currently. According to the National Weather Service, the average precipitation for Washington in the first two weeks of September is 1.87 inches and this has been the record lowest at zero precipitation.
