The Highland community demonstrated that 15 years on the school board isn’t enough for director Kevin Engel.

Ainsworth and Riverside voters chose Engel to represent District 3 in the recent school board election with over 80% in favor, though he hadn’t filed for reelection. Engel has decided to accept the results and serve another term on the board, as no other candidates ran for his district. Engel says his main objective for continuing on the board is to finalize the superintendent situation, which is being served by Dr. Mike Jorgensen in the interim, with either hiring someone full-time, or sharing with another district. He suggests what could be in store for the board after selling the Ainsworth building, “I’m actually hoping that it’s just kind of a calm period where we can really concentrate on student achievement, and making sure that our students are getting what they need.”

Engel says of his time on the board and his involvement with Highland Schools, he’s most proud of being board president and gaining the respect of students and constituents.
