Classes have begun for Iowa Mennonite School and the numbers are in for how many students are enrolled this year.

Director of Enrollment Candi Schmieder says total enrollment is 83 students, down from 85 last year. Schmieder says there are 25 new students this year, “We continue to get more new students so that is great. Our total enrollment is a little lower this year because we had some students move out of the area, which you just can’t help when that happens when families move. So if that hadn’t happened we would be up for enrollment for the year.”

Schmieder says the school has been working hard on their marketing efforts to reach out to potential students within a 40 mile radius. There are fewer students from area Mennonite churches that attend IMS. Schmieder emphasizes the school’s academic program, and the students’ ability to be a part of several extracurriculars such as playing a role in the fall musical and running in cross country. This May 18 students graduated from IMS.
