The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team returns home to Dwight G. Sattler Field in Wellman this week to host the No. 1 ranked Williamsburg Raiders.

The Golden Hawks enter the contest with some momentum, scoring their first district win of the season a week ago against Camanche on the road 26-8 to improve to 2-3 on the year. Mid-Prairie did it on the strength of two outstanding offensive performances with Keaton Duwa carrying the workload on the ground, going for 209 yards and two touchdowns on 32 carries on the ground, while Brad Tornow was 10 of 15 through the air for 209 yards, a score and an interception. The Golden Hawk defense also rose up, shutting out the Indians for the final three quarters of the contest and allowing just 19 rushing yards on the night.

On the season, Mid-Prairie is led by Brad Tornow through the air at 21 of 37 for 284 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions. The Golden Hawks favorite target through the air is Justin Schwartz with 20 catches for 273 yards and a touchdown. On the ground Keaton Duwa is the workhorse for the Hawks with 93 carries for 554 yards and five touchdowns. Those numbers are third best in the district. Duwa is also Mid-Prairie’s leading defender with 28.5 tackles on the season, fourth most in the district. Tom Butters leads the district and is fourth in the state with three interceptions.

Williamsburg enters tonight’s contest ranked No. 1 in the state in the latest poll from the Associated Press. The Raiders have topped the poll each week of the season to this point and are undefeated at 5-0. In their last action they beat Mediapolis in a shoot out 55-31. Gage Hazen-Fabor had a big night with 18 carries for 250 yards and four touchdowns. Mathyan Powell finished with 11 carries for 146 yards and three touchdowns. Hazen-Fabor leads the way for the Raiders on the ground with 96 carries for 1,117 yards and 14 scores. All of those numbers are best in class 2A district five and the state. Through the air Gage Blythe is 29 of 52 for 483 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. His favorite target is Brandon Blythe with 10 grabs for 161 yards and a pair of scores. Josh Holub leads the Raider defense with 25 total tackles.
