The Highland and Lone Tree school boards held a joint work session in Lone Tree Monday.

The two districts already share some staff and classes. Highland Superintendent Dr. Mike Jorgensen says that because of the close proximity of the two districts and the fact that both have new superintendents this year, the boards thought it would be prudent to discuss more sharing opportunities. Jorgensen says, “Everyone’s looking for more opportunities for kids. I think that was the biggest portion of the discussion. Everybody would like to have more electives and more opportunities for kids to take classes that maybe they aren’t getting at their home district. And so, we take the best of each district and expand that and offer it to the neighboring district. It just gives our kids a lot more opportunities, and that’s really what the biggest focus of the conversation was that night.”

Sharing possibilities that Jorgensen and Lone Tree Superintendent Ken Crawford brainstormed included superintendent, business manager, and guidance counselor, as well as other career technical education classes and faculty positions. The boards also added curriculum and technology directors, lego league, robotics, and fine arts electives to the list. Each board will discuss these ideas in October, and anticipate another joint session in November.
