Drought conditions in Iowa have lessened from last week to this week.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, last week nearly 68% of Iowa was abnormally dry and now 57.4% of the state is in that category. The current statistics show 2.24% in extreme drought, 6.6% in severe drought, and 30% of Iowa is in moderate drought. Most of Washington County is considered abnormally dry with the northwest corner of the county in moderate drought. Iowa, Johnson, Keokuk, Jefferson, and Henry Counties are also experiencing areas with moderate drought. At this time last year only 4.9% of Iowa was abnormally dry.
