The Kalona City Council discussed placement of new stop signs and a no parking area at Monday’s meeting.

The council determined they want to restrict parking on a portion of 9th Street to alleviate traffic flow on a sharp curve. The city had proposed stop signs be placed at four intersections, but Mayor Ken Herington said they adjusted their plans, “We decided to put no stop signs on H [Avenue] and 14th [Street]. We were looking at putting some there, [but] the sheriff recommended not doing that because it is a hill and it could create some more problems than we have. And the other locations we are actually putting stop signs in, due to the configuration somewhat of the different intersections, the stop signs will provide better traffic flow.”

The three proposed intersections are at 12th Street and F Avenue, D Avenue facing East to the City Park, and on 4th Street and G Avenue. An ordinance of the changes will be drafted and presented for the first reading at the next council meeting.
