The countdown is on for this year’s Kalona Fall Festival, taking place at the Kalona Historical Village September 29 and 30.

Area residents and out-of-town visitors will be able to come out to witness old world demonstrations, live music, and purchase craft goods and traditional food favorites like apple fritters and homemade pretzels. Kalona Historical Village Managing Director Nancy Roth is encouraging people to help out with the annual event, “We’re always looking for volunteers, if anybody wants to come help. I think the main thing that we’re struggling in right now is we need people to help take gate money. That always seems to be a struggle and I think right now we’re really needing help on Saturday.”

This year’s admission buttons commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Kalona Volunteer Fire Department, “You can buy buttons in advance and save yourself a dollar. So there are multiple businesses in Kalona, the grocery store, the historical village, the chamber and quite a few shops downtown.”

Advance admission for the festival is $5 for adults until September 28 and buttons can be purchased at the historical village, chamber of commerce, JW’s Foods, and other Kalona businesses. Regular admission is $6 for adults and $2 for children at the gate. Those interested in volunteering can contact the Kalona Historical Village.
