The City of Kalona is submitting two applications for grant funding from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation.

A resolution was presented at the September 5 council meeting to approve an application on behalf of the English River Watershed of $14,500 for office technology upgrades and trade show items.

City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh explains what the second grant application would be for, “We would look to use to enhance the vestibule entrance, a separation curtain for the gym, public bleachers, custom railing for a walking and running track, and additional items to facilitate the new gym.”

The City of Kalona is applying for $150,000 for the new community center. The city has matching funds of $5,000 for the English River Watershed and $50,000 for the community center. Both applications were approved by the council. The Foundation’s fall application period deadline is October 4.
