Louisa County Conservation is in the midst of their archaeology series this fall, providing adult-oriented educational programs about the ancient history of southeastern Iowa and Louisa County.

This week’s program “Louisa County Prehistory” will feature a presentation by Cherie Haury-Artz of the Office of the State Archaeologist. Louisa County Naturalist Lana Artz-McComb says, “She will be walking us through kind of a virtual walk through time. So she’s going to start with the earliest known record of the people in the state of Iowa. And she’s going to just walk us up through time to the present moment, and discuss what was happening in the entire state, and what was happening in Louisa County and southeastern Iowa.”

This is the second event in the series. Artz-McComb comments on the reception thus far, “It has been incredible. We have had great turnout at the program. We filled the room to capacity with our first program and so I’m hoping that trend continues. People were incredibly interested. They asked very intelligent questions, and it was quite a lively discussion at the end, after the first speaker was done with his presentation.”

“Louisa County Prehistory” is on Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Columbus Junction Civic Center in the ICN Room. The program is free and open to the public.
