The thermometer dropped below 50 degrees Monday, nearly tying the record low temperature in Washington for September 5th.

The record was set in 1962 at 44 degrees. According to Accuweather, the temperature fell to 45 degrees in the early morning hours. So far September has been off to a cooler start than normal. According to the National Weather Service, the average temperature for the first five days of September is 68.8 degrees and it has been observed at 64.6 degrees. Temperatures are expected to warm up later in the week with high temperatures in the upper-70’s and overnight lows in the mid-50’s.
