A teenage driver lost control, went across the Highway 218 median, and struck another vehicle head-on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Washington County Communications Office, at 2 p.m. dispatch received numerous calls of the wreck on Highway 218, near 240th Street, north of Ainsworth. One of the vehicles caught fire. Eighteen-year-old Seleena Marie Richardson of Ottumwa was southbound on the highway, when she lost control and entered northbound traffic. Richardson’s Saturn Ion hit a GMC Yukon driven by Michelle Hamm of Mt. Pleasant. Both vehicles were totaled. One person was taken to the University of Iowa hospital by ambulance.

Richardson was cited for failure to maintain control and no insurance accident related. Ainsworth Fire Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Washington Rescue, and Washington County Ambulance responded to the scene.
